Last Fall, University of Cincinnati (UC) students who were enrolled in classes in the 3D area of UC’s School of Art were offered a unique opportunity to create new artworks for an exhibition in the American Sign Museum’s back room. Undergraduate and Graduate students studying ceramics, sculpture and installation art visited the museum and were given unique access to the space and materials.

A donation to the school by Cincinnati Red, Bronson Arroyo, supported student works, and the School and the College supported the opening reception.  Dubbed ‘Neon Dreams’, the exhibit opened November 1, showcasing 30 Sign Museum-inspired artworks.  Supporters of the School and the College and the local arts community attended.

Coordinating Professors Linda Einfalt, Katie Parker, Matt Lynch and Joe Girandola were pleased by the quality of the students’ works and their ability to incorporate their reactions to the mission of the Museum and the history of the building in ambitious site specific works.  They were also inspired to create new works themselves.   “Working alongside the students was inspiring, and everyone worked beyond their typical way of production,” said Professor Lynch.

Here are just a few examples of the artworks presented at the exhibition.  Enjoy…
